This fragrance is inspired by the Kraken and all legendary creatures who lurk within the depths waiting to strike fear into the hearts of ocean explorers. Reminiscent of pirates, treasure maps, and sea monsters, this fragrance captures the smells of a high seas adventure. The woody scent of driftwood and sea salt brings to life a wooden-hulled frigate sailing over the open ocean. Notes of leather and tobacco represent the ship’s crew of hardened and seasoned seafarers. The Kraken is a legendary Scandinavian sea monster frequently described as a colossal squid that dates back to 13th century Icelandic sagas. Kraken lore says the beast is larger than several ships combined causing unlucky sailors to mistake its body for an island, a blunder which ultimately leads to their demise. Marine monsters are a common folklore theme and exist in various forms such as the Leviathan in the Bible and Jörmungandr in Norse mythology. They appear in classic literature such as Homer’s Odyssey, Jules Verne's Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, and H. P. Lovecraft's The Call of Cthulhu.

The Kraken has been seen more recently as a sigil for House Greyjoy in Game of Thrones and in the Pirates of the Caribbean film series. Sea monsters represent fear of the unknown, a vulnerability caused by the inability to see what lurks beneath the surface, and the prospect of failing to fight off an attack in the hostile, extreme environment that is the open sea.
